I once heard a young adult say, "Church is a necessity". It is this statement that I would love for all young adults to have or "Church is like that!". It is dependent upon where you are being raised, nurtured, and reassured in the church. If there is no fuel to the flame, the fire cannot get hot. What part of "church" keeps you there? Or has made you flee?

I thought I already posted this, but I believe my computer failed me (or it's operator error). I continue to go to church because I know God and I know His word is true and I need it. I do know some of the things that deter young adults from church or church involvement though. As a young adult especially a single young adult it is difficult to see myself reflected in leadership roles in the church (when I say that I mean any church). It is not often that in a traditional church you will find single young people in positions of power or leadership unless they are chairing the Young Adult Ministry or the Youth Fellowship. Barring that it is as if those under 30 are considered flakes and as such people have given up on us and don't give us the opportunity to serve in the major roles in teh church. Stop and reflect on churches you attend and observe and think of the handful if that of women under 30 who are single or even men that are chairs of ministries or are on the major boards of the churches in power positions. Our role is subordinate. To go from being a celebrated youth in the church to being told to hold only one or two roles in the church is a bit of culture shock and I believe is the reason why it is hard to keep young adults interested in committee membership b/c they don't see themselves as having a voice. That is why we hear people say they left one church for another because there were "more young people."
I go to church to give God thanks for helping me get through my week. Next I do church because it charges my battery to prepare me for the next week. In addition my church family is a support group.
